The Early Morning Reveille

This marks the challenge of getting out of bed in a jiffy in the mornings.

Wakey! Wakey!

Slow on the uptake
Half conscious sloth like
Eyes half closed,
it just tugged on the nerves

Can we have a semblance of authority here?

No, they are still at it, not hearing
continuing with their forty winks, surfing
freely Santa-like, smoothly gliding

It was tortuous, a Spartan journey
the round of festivities are over,
the goodies of Raya no more
It has been days since they last appeared
duit Raya givers had virtually disappeared

This is the hour of reckoning,
the head is spinning
Just got to get up,
may be late for solat

Up sleepy head, the new school term is here!

Dear Hank,
Looks like you have a mini Boy's Wing at home to drill your cucu just like Grandpa.

Dear Sir Hank,

Every Monday, Wednesday, and for two on Thursday, I am commited to submit my poetry to the memes of the poetry blogsphere. This helps me hone the craft so to speak. Leslie, aka Moondustwriter who host the One Shot Wednesday meme, posted this poem this week which might be of interest to you.

She details the different forms quite succinctly. Tell me when to stop, just in case this is too much info.

He bore himself quiet dour
under his arm he carried ” it”
“this” he said “is my finest hour
for you see I am a poet”

Next time you see me
remember rotund I may be
the edges poking out squarely
are those of my swallowed dictionary

I‘m versed in iambic pentameter
quatrains, full refrains and verse
in which my classical meter
finest brevis in longo in reverse

I wasn’t long or weak
my Aeolic verse was so fine
from the original Greek
flowing rhyme is sublime

my couplet heroic in nature
alliteration caused an ovation
by far a rapture
sought out by the nation

One Shot Wednesday is a poetry day that invites poets of all shapes and sizes to express and enjoy.

Dear Ninotaziz Ma'am,
1. 'Ma'am' is very acceptable as a mark of respect for a wonderful sifu. But 'Sir', no, unless it's Sir Walter Raleigh or Sir Francis Drake. Just plain Hank, Ma'am, please!
2. Frankly I'm lost. The poem overwhelms. It's too much , too soon. I can't make out the difference. I notice the rhyme is maintained though. Yes, I must spend time to know the various forms. Haven't a clue on this one. I'll look up all the 4 websites for familiarity in the meantime. Thanks Ma'am.

Dear Hal,
The Indon maid is the first line of defence. Will come in if it gets out of hand.

Dash the form. It was too much. Afterall, I wrote poetry for 20 over years without studying forms. However, I found most of my poetry fitted into some form or the other naturally - as do yours.

So dash the form.

But do try out :
- quatrains (4 line stanzas)
- haiku (3 line with 17 moras and season)
- pantoum (pantun berkait)

And don't go near the four blogs less you be too enraptured.

I like Sir Hank!

Dear Ninotaziz Ma'am,
Wow, a crash course! ( What I had silently prayed for) Wow, double wows!
1. The quatrains I imagine would be the traditional sort. Let me just post one now and see if it qualifies.
2. Haiku? Give me a couple of days to google for moras and season and hope to come up with something. Am sure there are egs
3. Pantun Berkait. It's embarassing. Heard of it but cannot exactly tell what it is. Few egs will surely help. Wow again!
4. Will not touch the 4 blogs right now.

Dear Pakcik,
I'm trying to maintain sanity myself. I thought it is just write gila-gila. But it is highly technical. I'm too engrossed with Ma'am's guiding light that I inadvertently forgot prose writing.

P/S I'm so grateful that you touched the switch that got things going which I would never have thought of on my own. Thanks a lot Pakcik!
