A Hot Bright Day

'On a Day Like Today is the blog of Peggy Goetz, who has been prolificly blogging since 2007. "Poetry is a view inside offered to the world" are the words a reader first encounters when entering her blog.’

Thus the introduction by Mary Kling to the Poetry Blog of the Week of 8 Nov 2010. What caught my eye is the blog heading On a Day Like Today. It brought back the nostalgic memories of a Pat Boone number entitled ‘ Love Letters in the Sand’ where the opening line is, you guessed it, On a Day Like Today

I cannot pass up the opportunity to append herewith the full lyrics of the song which may bring forth fond memories of your own. It did to me , tears in my eyes.

Love Letters in the Sand by Pat Boone

On a day like today, we passed the time away

Writing love letters in the sand

How you laughed when I cried each time I saw the tide

Take our love letters from the sand

You made a vow that you’ll ever be true

But somehow that vow meant nothing to you

Now my broken heart aches with every wave that breaks

Over love letters in the sand

Below is my response to On A Day Like Today ( Haiku styled)

A Hot Bright Day

Benevolent might

The sun burning strong and bright

Extending its right

None is as so blind

Over the whole universe

So true and so kind

But cold winds and rain

Made an appearance of pain

Without much restraint

The big oak stood tall

Bravely it withstood the threat

Not likely to fall

Piercing bright and clear

Strong straight rays over yonder

The sun did appear

Help given sincere

Glistening on nature’s child

As did happen here

Adventure

Inspired through Writer's Island Prompt # 28

Urban Adventurer

Come what may, I’m determined to go

It’s adventure with a big ‘A’ I told him so

But what can we do, it’s perplexing

Does it matter , we are just underlings

Just contain yourself, it need not start big

It need not be a pirate’s lair in the Pacific

Nor the Foreign Legion to be specific

Or up out there in outer space so to speak

Can white-water rafting on the Kelantan River ( here ) count?

Or the Queenstown Shot-Over Jet if New Zealand bound

Or mountain climbing, no, not Mount Everest , a biggie

Just maybe a wee minor round of travel to Brastagi

To be fair, it need not be that’s too testing

Nor death defying nor life threatening

For a start, let’s say something more satisfying

A big round of a dinner as a family outing!

Magic

Inspired and prompted by The Thursday Think Tank # 22 ( styled in Haiku )

The Magic Wand

Of the magic wand

Of suspended tears forewarned

Make it all easy

Have a taste of it

A make believe encounter

I am through with it

Can you get it right?

Akin to Harry Potter

I will lie in wait

I can’t bear to hear

Of a likely homecoming

All gone asunder

We lead the world

Inspired and prompted by Magpie # 39

A Proud Tradition

We lead the world

At the break of dawn, at 5.30 sharp

we are up

We brace ourselves, our crown up erect

We take a stance ,

toss our head back

the melodious tune is sung

Cocker- doo-doodle do

A strange biological clock

Triggered the act

Everyday with out fail, true for a fact

Only then you humans moved

Your lazy bones to follow suit

to be up and about

though there are an odd few

who insist

of breakfast in bed

We rule the world

Through the 4 corners of the earth

Big China, India and anywhere else

The Colonel

in pure white flannel

Goateed , smiling , forever in a good mood

Its ‘finger licking good’

We decide our own destiny

We are not to be bullied

We stand proud of our reputation

We are of the most difficult species to be trained

Unlike others

who could be led by the nose

We have our own mind

Don’t Pavlov us, we’ve had enough

And another thing

Cut out that crap of ‘chicken and egg’

We’re first on the scene

A chicken can create an egg

Can an egg do the same?
